Oklahoma Lawmakers Begin Laying the Groundwork for the 2027 Legislative Session

While the 2026 legislative session may be over, the work of the Oklahoma Legislature is just beginning. House and Senate leadership have approved dozens of interim studies that will take place over the coming months, allowing lawmakers to examine complex policy issues before the First Session of the 61st Oklahoma Legislature convenes in February 2027.

Interim studies provide legislators with an opportunity to hear from state agencies, industry leaders, subject matter experts, and the public on issues that may require legislative action. Although no laws are passed during these hearings, they often shape the bills, budget priorities, and policy debates that emerge during the next legislative session.

Topics approved for study span a wide range of issues, including economic development, education, public safety, infrastructure, healthcare, energy, workforce development, and government operations. For businesses, associations, and local governments, these discussions offer an early look at the priorities likely to dominate the Capitol in 2027.
